Fun and Unique Engagement and Wedding Things

Image
I thought it would be fun to share some of the more fun and unique things we did throughout our engagement, wedding planning, and wedding day. If you know me you know I'm not a fan of doing things just because they're expected or tradition, and I tried to carry that as much into the wedding as I could. It was much more meaningful to do things we actually wanted and thought were cool and not just do them because they were expected. We also added some less common and a dance things in, 'cause that definitely fits us! Non-traditional Snowball Doing a first dance is normal, but the song right after we did a snowball. For those in the lindy hop community, you more than likely know what that is, but for those who don't it's where two people start dancing and when the announcer shouts "SNOWBALL!", the people who are already dancing find a new partner who isn't already dancing. It's a really fun way to dance with new people and to get everyone o

The Month Before

Finding Shoes Finding the right pair of shoes was quite the challenge. Ideally I wanted something red, but it's hard to find red flats in general, let alone in a size 5.5W. Finding plain flats in that size is nearly impossible. But one day I had the realization that I should've been looking in the kids section as there are more colorful options and the equivalent sizes are usually a bit wider. I ordered 5 different pairs of flats from the kids section on Amazon and ended up keeping two pairs. The original plan was to wear the red ones for the wedding and the silver ones to my bridal shower. I did that, but also brought the silver ones the day of the wedding and I'm really glad I did, as after not too long the red ones became really uncomfortable on my heel so I switched out after pictures to the silver ones. It was a last minute decision to bring both of them, but I'm most definitely glad I did! Picnic Date The day we went to Shane Co to pick out our w

Booking Vendors

Choosing a Photographer Let's be real: this was one of the hardest vendors for me. Being that I'm a photographer myself means I'm pretty picky, but then you add the fact that I'm also very budget conscious and that makes it even harder. A lot of the photographers whose style I really liked were starting close to double of what we wanted to pay, which I totally get, but wasn't in the budget for us. So I was really thankful when our good friend Katie (hi Katie!) one evening at Eastside Stomp mentioned that her sister is a wedding photographer and that she'd be able to fit in my budget and that she thought I'd like her style. We checked out Aspired Photography out and booked her ASAP! Though her editing style is a little different than what I usually go for, it fit well with her photos and I really liked how many good candid shots she had, which is something that's very important to me. Plus she was within our budget, which made me very happy. Findin

The Bridal Shower

The weekend before Big Sky Carrie hosted the most wonderful bridal shower for me! She baked all sorts of gluten and dairy free desserts, made lots of cute decorations, and even made a photo wall. It was so nice! The only requests I had for the event were to not open gifts during the party (I'd much rather spend time with everyone than have everyone staring at me as I open presents, lol). I also didn't want too many games, so we ended up with a just couple different trivia games. The first was where guests were challenged on how well they knew me and the second was me trying to guess questions that Kaleb answered. It was a lot of fun! It's crazy to think that I had a bridal shower. For me, not just one of my friends. Kinda hard to fully wrap my mind around. I don't usually like being the center of attention, so it was weird being so popular and everyone wanting to talk to me. I was definitely tired by the end, but it was so worth it!
